There are way-marked walks from the Ballyhoura Forest Holiday Homes and Ballyorgan – the Ballyhoura Way, loops walks, the Keale River walk, the stroll from your home over the river and through deciduous forest, the Ballyhoura Bears welcome you to join local walkers on guided walks.
Cycle via forest and country road to the nearby trail head of the Ballyhoura Mountain Bike Trails, 98 km in stacked loops. Designed by the world renowned Daffyd Davis, it provides technical single track, boardwalk, tight turns and more in trails ranging from a 6 km to over 50 km in length, suitable for all levels and abilities. For complete beginners, Kilfinane Outdoor Education Centre offer MTB skills lessons in addition to a wide variety of outdoor activities. Booking in advance is desirable should you wish to hire a bicycle.
Nearby Kilmallock is a cycling hub, so if you prefer road cycling, there are way-marked routes of varying lengths through stunning countryside and picturesque villages.
There is a strong equine tradition in Ballyhoura with a local hunt and regular point to point meets from December to May. There are a number of local equestrian centres that cater for riders of all levels of ability and offer treks through the area’s stunning countryside. There are racecourses within easy reach, such as Limerick, Tipperary, Thurles, Clonmel and Cork.
For those looking for a more relaxing activity, the area has a number of excellent golf courses, such as Charleville Golf Club, Limerick Golf Club, Mitchelstown Golf Club, Adare and Doneraile Golf Club.
Excellent angling is on offer in local rivers which include the Blackwater, Funcheon, Awbeg, Shannon, Maigue and Mulcair which offer a choice of coarce, trout and salmon for the angler.
Coarse, trout and salmon fishing, clay pigeon shooting, kayaking and more are also options.
